TOURISM VETERAN RON PECK TAKES REIGNS AT TOURISM WALLA WALLA AFTER LEADING ALASKA TRAVEL INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS
Ron Peck, a respected travel industry leader with more than 35 years of travel and tourism experience including the past decade as President and COO of the Alaska Travel Industry Association, has been hired as the new Executive Director of Tourism Walla Walla. Peck is in the process of relocating his family to Walla Walla and will begin his new role on Monday, March 18.
“Ron’s experience directing the State of Alaska’s travel marketing efforts and growing the multi-billion dollar tourism industry will be a tremendous asset as we continue working to increase the number of leisure, group and business travelers to the valley,” said Scott Peters, president of the Tourism Walla Walla Board of Directors. “That experience, coupled with his familiarity with the Pacific Northwest and his enthusiasm for Walla Walla, really helped separate Ron from a strong group of candidates.”
As President and COO of ATIA, Peck was the top travel and tourism executive for the State of Alaska and successfully led the organization through periods of growth, challenge, and recovery. In that time, he also spent four years serving on the US Travel Association Board of Directors.
Prior to his role at ATIA, Peck served as director of sales and marketing for Alyeska Resort, as well as director of sales and marketing for Princess Tours and Princess Alaska Lodges. He began his career in 1977 as a reservations and customer service agent for Alaska Airlines, eventually rising to the role of director of marketing for Alaska, Russia and Canada.
“Walla Walla has done a great job of establishing and being true to its brand, and I look forward to applying my experience toward promoting that brand while continuing to learn and grow in the process,” said Ron Peck. “I am excited to be back in Washington, and my wife and I are looking forward to actively promoting and recreating in a great part of the state.”
