Walla Walla is well-known for its many wineries and restaurants, but it’s also home to several fun and unique breweries. Alongside our thousands of acres of vineyards, the valley has a long history of wheat agriculture that goes back for generations and supports a growing community of craft brewers. Enjoy a relaxed afternoon with a local brew and get to know Walla Walla’s other famous crop with this list of our friendly breweries.
With a large taproom, lawn games, and plenty of outdoor seating, Burwood Brewery is a great destination for larger groups and families. There is something for everyone with over ten brews on tap, cider from Blue Mountain Cider, and root beer for younger visitors. Guests are welcome to bring food or call in delivery to the brewery, and the WTF Eat It food truck is often stationed outside. Burwood Brewery is also in the center of Walla Walla’s popular Food Truck Night, which happens the first Monday of each month from April through October. Check their Facebook page for upcoming events such as live music and new beer releases.
Quirk Brewing offers a fun, family-friendly experience for those looking for good beer and a relaxed atmosphere. The Agapas Mexican Cravings food truck is located just outside the taproom, so grab some fresh tacos and enjoy one of Quirk’s many beers like their deliciously smooth Oatmeal Stout. With board games and several non-alcoholic options like root beer, the whole family will find something to love about Quirk Brewing.
Big House Brewpub is located in downtown Walla Walla and offers a full menu with a selection of locally-inspired beers. Get a sense for Walla Walla’s local agriculture with the Walla Walla Wheat beer, or try the Mosaic Jailbreak IPA and Rusty Chains Irish Red. The menu is full of local flare as well, and includes options like the Walla Walla Sweet Onion rings and the in-house specialty Big House Macho Nachos. Though not a brewery, Wingman Birdz + Brewz is located just across the street from Big House Brewpub and offers a wide selection of Northwest and import beers as well.
Water Buffalo Brewery combines old-world inspiration with local ingredients to create beautiful beers that highlight our region’s agriculture. Brewmaster Michael Rossi has over fifteen years of experience, and he specializes in English and Belgian style ales. The brewery emphasizes sustainability by using renewable energy and encouraging customers to return bottles for refills. The brewery is open by appointment only, or you can find their beers on tap in local eateries such as Sweet Basil Pizzeria and Blue Mountain Cider Company.
Located in nearby Milton-Freewater, Oregon, Dragon’s Gate Brewery is just a few miles south of Walla Walla. The brewery focuses on small batch 70-411 dumps brews that use their estate-grown hops to create delicious Belgian style ales, and they offer several beers that use wild yeast and barrel aging. The shaded backyard with large tables and chairs is great for a relaxed picnic, so bring the whole family and cool down with one of Dragon’s Gate Brewery’s selection of unique craft beers.
