Walla Walla offers something for the whole family. From adventurous nature outings, to bowling, a children’s museum and almost too many parks to count – everyone is bound to have a ball.
Take your family on va-cation and get an edu-cation.
For us in Walla Walla, vacation means a whole lot more than just sitting around (especially for you parents with energetic kids). You need to reconnect, learn, move, and grow together. And for that, Walla Walla has a lot to offer.
Places to Explore during your edu-cation
Take your kids to History class at the Fort Walla Walla Museum. It is located on the grounds of a 19th-century military fort and features a pioneer settlement, beautiful gardens, and five exhibit halls housing thousands of artifacts. There are special programs and events held on the Museum grounds all year round, so there is almost always something new happening for you and your family to check out.
Do some science experiments after going to Inland Octopus. This cute and quirky shop has an awesome collection of science kits, puzzles, games, and toys for all ages, probably even for Dad (or especially him). Science experiments help kids grasp the reality of science rather than just reading about it in a textbook. And it will be a great bonding experience to do it as a family.
Get on the move for Art class by heading to Whitman College for a sculpture walk. Check out the horse (STYX), the PE-WA-OO-YIT sculpture (what?), the archway to Narnia, and more!
Knock out English class and math class at once by hopping over to Book and Game. You can give your kids a certain amount of money to buy a book and then have them figure out the change they should get back before going to check out. Then you can all read the books together. It will be so fun, your kids won’t even know they’re learning!
Teach your kids about agriculture by exploring local farms together. Frog Hollow Farm has a variety of produce and flowers you can enjoy, pick, and purchase. You can also stop and smell the lavender (instead of boring ol’ roses) at Blue Mountain Lavender Farm.
Haven’t gotten enough exercise just walking around yet? Get in some physical education by renting bicycles at Allegro Cyclery. Explore Walla Walla and the surrounding countryside faster on bikes. (They even have tandem bikes you can try out. You know… the bikes with two seats. Ain’t that neat!)
A great way to end the day with your family is at Whitman Mission. Take a hike at sunset, explore the visitor center, walk on the Oregon trail, see the covered wagon, and learn about the history of settlers and natives in the Walla Walla Valley.
No matter your interests or the size of your family, Walla Walla is the perfect edu-cation destination. Make a plan today to come to visit us.
