While Walla Walla is a fantastic place to relax and unwind surrounded by our breathtaking scenery, it’s also a great place to get your heart-racing with some outdoor events! Bennington Lake holds two noteworthy events in the spring – the Walla Walla Women’s 6-Hour Race (April 15) and the Onion Man Triathlon (May 20).
Women’s 6 Hour Race
The Walla Walla 6-Hour is a women’s only trail running event that helps promote Trail Sisters, whose mission is to increase women’s participation in trail running and hiking. The brainchild of Gretchen Walla (nice name!), this endurance event is in its third year and challenges runners to see how far they can run along the 5-mile Whitetail Trail at the lake during a 6-hour window. It’s always a fun and supportive event!
Onion Man Triathlon
Fast forward a month and you can add swimming and cycling to the mix with the 29th Annual Onion Man Triathlon, one of the first triathlons of the season! This Olympic distance race (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike and 10 km run) starts and finishes at Bennington Lake. Compete as an individual or team, and reward yourself with some great food and libations after crossing the finish line.
Tour of Walla Walla
And to round out springtime racing, June 2-4 sees the 24th Annual Tour of Walla Walla which brings competitive cyclists to the community to compete in two road races and a time trial north of town, as well as a criterium in downtown Walla Walla. Even if you don’t race, your heart will when spectating at the downtown criterium stage. Come see what it’s all about!
Plan ahead for these and many more spring adventures today.
