Downtown Walla Walla was alive with the energy of the second annual Blood of Gods Merrymaking event (on July 22, 2023). Organized by the innovative Stacy Buchanan, this celebration of wine, heavy metal, and art brought together enthusiasts from near and far, transforming the heart of the town into a vibrant hub of creativity and revelry.
The event was an extension of the renowned Blood of Gods magazine, a project that has been a labor of love for Stacy over the past three years. Combining his passions for wine, music, and art, Stacy’s dream came to life through the annual merrymaking gathering.
Saturday afternoon commenced with a “no holds barred” interactive table discussion, graced by the presence of esteemed Master Sommeliers Jackson Rohrbaugh, Doug Frost, and Justin Moore, alongside Master Of Wine Bree Stock of Limited Addition Wines, and Maryam Ahmed of Maryam + Company. Wine lovers were treated to an engaging panel discussion, accompanied by tastings and a lively Q&A session.
As the sun set, The Motor Co. in downtown Walla Walla transformed into an exhilarating arena of fun, where attendees were enthralled by live art demonstrations, an extensive selection of wines, and a specially curated playlist featuring punk, metal, and hardcore classics and deep cuts.
With over two dozen wineries participating, Merrymakers had the opportunity to sample an array of fabulous wines, immersing themselves in the rich flavors and distinct characteristics that the region is renowned for. Adding to the fun, AK’s Mercado served up delicious tacos and Mexican fare, ensuring everyone stayed satiated at the revelrous occasion.
Beyond just being a feast for the senses, the Blood of Gods Annual Merrymaking event also had a philanthropic touch. While admission was free; tasting tokens, artwork, and delectable bites were available for purchase. 100% of the tasting token sales were donated to Planned Parenthood, raising nearly $10,000!
Throughout the event, live poetry and writing performances wove an artistic tapestry, showcasing the creative spirit that thrives in Walla Walla. Attendees immersed themselves in the power of words and the raw emotions that art and literature evoke.
After the main event, merrymakers continued the celebration at House of Smith Wines, where heavy hitters like rock band Heiress from Seattle and progressive death metal act Aseitas from Portland brought their mesmerizing sounds to the stage. K Vintners also delighted the crowd by pouring mind-blowing library wines, ensuring the after-party kept the energy alive long into the night.
